New in 2003, the Homeland Security Staff Directory provides vital contact information on staff and key officials working in the areas of Homeland and national security in all three executive branches. The Homeland Security Staff Directory combines the accuracy and breadth of data from CQ's Congressional Staff Directory, Federal Staff Directory and Juducial Staff Directory. No where else can you find this data in one complete web site.

In addition, the Homeland Security Staff Directory offers staff listings in PDF file formats for your convenience.

2. Tips to make your search easier

Banner at the top of all pages

  • Clicking the Homeland Security Staff Directory banner at the top of all pages in the site will take you back to the Main Menu from anywhere in the site.
  • Clicking the CQ Press - Politics, Policy and People in the banner at the top of all pages in the site will take you to the CQ Press bookstore.

Navigation panel on the left

  • Selecting any option from the buttons at the left will bring you to a browse or a search screen.
  • If you click on any of the browses (Department of Homeland Security, Federal Departments, Biographies, Senate Committees, House Committees, Federal Courts, Bernan Staff Profiles, or PDF Files) you will see a list of offices within that browse.
  • The Department of Homeland Security and Federal Departments list offices by organizational hierarchy.
  • Biographies are listed first by type (Member of Congress, Federal staff, Congressional staff, or Judicial Staff) and then alphabetically by last name.
  • Committees and Courts are listed alphabetically.
  • Bernan Staff profiles are listed by committee.
  • Only offices, committees, and courts pertaining to Homeland and national security are listed on the Homeland Security Staff Directory web site. For complete information on these offices, please see the Federal Staff Directory on the Web, Congressional Staff Directory on the Web and Judicial Staff Directory on the Web.

Staff and Biography Search

  • If you want to search for an individual across all content, go to the Staff and Biography Search button located at left.

  • If you want to search by keyword across all of the sections, go to the Keyword Search button located at left and enter your key word or phrase in the "Word or Phase" box.

  • The Keyword search allows you to narrow your search by type of office - Federal Agencies, Members, Committees, Courts, Biographies or Profiles. You may select All, one, two or any combination of office types. To deselect all types, click on All twice.
  • Clicking on the search button will return a list of search results that you can click on.
  • The reset button on any search screen clears the entire screen, not just one section. Choose reset if you make a mistake or to start a new search.
  • A search will take you directly to a page or to a list of results that match your search criteria. You can click to access any page on the list. To save time, the list itself includes room and phone numbers for offices and staff that match your search.
  • Most long pages in the site start with a linked list of subheadings.
  • Clicking on an Up arrow takes you back to the top of the page.
  • Use the Back button on your browser to revisit pages you've already seen.
  • Some searches allow you to type in a word or phrase or other text (staff member name, office name). You can search for multiple items if you separate the items by commas as you type. To locate the item(s) on the directory pages after searching, use the Find function in your browser.
